Dr. Ricky Rasschaert is a highly accomplished neurosurgeon and spine surgeon with extensive expertise in minimally invasive techniques, reconstructive spinal surgery, and neuro-oncology. Board-certified in Belgium (2007) and the Netherlands (2007), he has also completed advanced training, including fellowships in neuro-oncology and complex spine surgery at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam and the Medical Centre Haaglanden in The Hague.
Dr. Rasschaert has held several prominent roles throughout his career. He served as Senior Staff Neurosurgeon at the University Hospital Antwerp, where he founded the Multidisciplinary Spine Unit. Currently, he leads the Neurosurgical Department at AZ Rivierenland and serves as a neurosurgeon and spine surgeon at ZAS Ziekenhuis aan de Stroom, a prominent teaching hospital. Additionally, he has been an appointed teacher and trainer for ZAS Middelheim Neurosurgery since 2019, under the Belgian Government.
Dr. Rasschaert's teaching contributions span over a decade, including roles at VIVES University College and Odisee University College. He is a member of leading neurosurgical and spine societies, such as the Belgian Society of Neurosurgery, AO Spine, and the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies.
An active researcher, Dr. Rasschaert focuses on cerebrospinal fluid dynamics, Tarlov cysts, and widespread pain syndromes, with publications available on ResearchGate and Academia.edu. He also co-founded SpineCare@CURE, a spine surgery project in Uganda.
