Nanotechnology and Materials Science

Gleb Yushin is a Co-Founder & CTO of Sila. He is also a Professor of Materials Science at Georgia Institute of Technology and an Editor-in-Chief for Materials Today. Gleb has co-authored over 170 peer-reviewed publications, and over 140 US and international patents and patent applications. For his contributions to the development of energy storage materials, Gleb has received numerous awards, was elected to be a Fellow of the Materials Research Society, a Fellow of the Electrochemical Society, a Fellow of the EU Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors and was recognized as one of the world’s most influential scientific minds. Gleb holds BS and MS degrees in Physics from Polytechnic Institute and a PhD in Materials Science from North Carolina State University.

Dr. Vladimir Sobolev is a professor at the Physics Department of the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology. Dr. Sobolev earned his M.S. Degree from the Kharkov State University in Ukrainian SSR; he earned his Ph.D. in Physical & Mathematical Sciences from Donetsk Physics & Technology Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR; obtained his Habilitation Degree of Doctor of Physical & Mathematical Sciences from The Supreme Attestation Committee of the USSR. During his teaching and research career Dr. Sobolev taught in Ukraine, Taiwan and USA. His main research interests are in wide range of properties of materials with spontaneous polarization (ferroelectric, magnetic, and magnetoelectric substances), phase transitions in materials with spontaneous polarization, kinetic and relaxational behavior of systems of interacting quasiparticles in substances subjected to the action of intense external alternating fields (magnetic and electric fields), optical properties of magnetic and magnetoelectric materials, and properties of high-temperature superconducting materials. Results of his research have been published in more than 300 articles. His results were presented in more than 150 presentations at different conferences. Gregory Timp received his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1986 working with Mildred Dresselhaus to measure the physical properties of graphite and graphite intercalation compounds. After a postdoc stint at IBM with Alan Fowler testing electron transport in nanometer-scale in MOSFETs, he joined Bell Laboratories in 1988, where he continued to pursue transport physics in nanostructures along with optical trapping of neutral atoms for applications in lithography. As part of one collaboration, he investigated low temperature transport in “electron waveguides”: i.e. high mobility nanostructures so short that the transport was ballistic. In 2000, he joined the faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois, where his research focused mainly on the application of semiconductor nanotechnology to address questions in biology. In one effort, he tested the prospects for sequencing DNA by forcing single molecules immersed in electrolyte through a nanometer-diameter pore sputtered through an ultra-thin silicon membrane while measuring the current. In 2010, he joined the faculty of Notre Dame to continue his pursuit of nano-biotechnology with a joint appointment in Biological Sciences and Electrical Engineering. He is the Brosey Professor of Engineering, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science; a Fellow of the American Physical Society; and a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He has published over 100 articles in scientific journals and holds 10 patents.

Prof. Mineo Hiramatsu received Ph.D. from Nagoya University and is a Full Professor of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Meijo University, Japan. He served as the Director of The Japan Society of Applied Physics. His main fields of research are plasma diagnostics and plasma processing for the synthesis of thin films and nanostructured materials. He is an author of more than 150 scientific papers and patents on plasma processes for materials science. He was awarded the Japan Society of Applied Physics Fellow in 2017.

Prof. Neal Tai-Shung Chung is a Jade Mountain Chair professor at Graduate Institute of Applied Science and Technology, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), Taiwan. Before joining NTUST, he was a Provost’s Chair Professor at the ChBE dept of National University of Singapore in 2011-2021. His research focuses on polymeric membranes for clean water, clear energy and pharmaceutic separation. In 2005-2008, he worked as a Senior Consultant for Hyflux, led and built its membrane research. He became a Fellow in the Academy of Engineering Singapore in 2012. He received the Underwood Medal from IChemE (Institute of Chemical Engineers, UK) for exceptional research in separations and Singapore President’s Technology Award in 2015. He was ranked as No. 6th in Chemical Engineering worldwide by “the top 2% scientists in the world” published by Stanford University in both 2022 and 2023. He was one of the top 0.1% of scholars on Water Purification over the past 10 years, as "World Expert" by Expertscape (2021). (Water Purification: Worldwide - Expertscape.com). Prof. Dr. Wang graduated from Fudan University in 1983. After spending 3 years in Beijing General Research Institute of Non-ferrous Metals as a research associate, he joined Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICCAS) at Beijing and obtained his master degree (1989) and PhD (1992). He then worked at ICCAS ranking from assistant professor (1992), associate professor (1994) to professor (1997). He has joined Tsinghua University since the May of 2009. In 2021, he was elected as the Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is a Fellow of Chinese Chemical Society and a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry. Currently, he serves as the chairman of the committee of supramolecular chemistry, Chinese Chemistry Society.Prof. Wang’s research interests include zigzag carbon nanobelts, macrocyclic and supramolecular chemistry, anion-pi noncovalent interactions, organocopper chemistry, biocatalysis and biotransformations, and organic synthesis.

Cited Researcher and top 1% author in Environmental Science and Ecology; Chemistry and Engineering, Yasin Orooji comes from a family of scholars. With expertise in designing/synthesizing/developing novel antibacterial, antiviral & antifungal multifunctional nanocomposite materials to be used in separation; catalysis & sensing, he was awarded the Best Inventor title in 2014 by the Ministry of Science. Later, he was invited to join Professor Wanqin Jin's Research Group in 2015. In 2018, he joined the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Nanjing Forestry University as an associate professor and as the rising star of the Asian Materials Chemical Engineering community, he soon after was promoted to full Professor in 2020. Currently, he is serving as a Distinguished Professor at Zhejiang Normal University and has been listed among the Stanford-Elsevier top 2% scientists since 2021. Since 2017, he has published 190 SCI papers (43 ESI top papers, including 1 hot papers) and 10 patents, one of which is the best national patent award. He has about 1180 hours of teaching experience and more than 5000 hours of tutoring student research projects. Since 2012, he has had industrial experiences with DHP Engineering, A.O. Smith and Alfa Laval. He cumulatively participated in more than 69.3 million yuan of research and industrial projects, making him a unique researcher to expand top research work to industrial products. His goal is to bridge the gap between universities and industries following the concept of Honeywell, Tesla Inc. and Lockheed Martin Corporation.

Ali Cheknane is currently a full professor at Amar Telidji University of Laghouat, Algeria. He was the dean of the faculty of technology for more than ten years. His research interest is on renewable energy resource and technologies, Green hydrogen, Photovoltaics, Solar energy materials, organic photovoltaic (OPV), silicon-based solar cells, perovskite materials and Nanomaterials for solar cells applications. He is also studying the computational materials science and predictions of energy Materials. He has published more than 100 papers in various journals and conferences proceedings on renewable energy subjects. He served as an editorial board for several journals and committee member for international conferences. He had an incentive award from ‘’ Centre de Développement des Énergies Renouvelables- CDER”. Professor Ali Cheknane was awarded for the best publication in physics in Algeria from the ANDRU agency in 2008. He is a senior member at the International Academy of Science and Engineering for Development (IASED).
